Minisynton 1.2 — skin switching and tests

Changes

Both formats now include Original, Vintage and Silver in one library. APPEARANCE buttons change the interface only. Instrument identifiers, audio parameters and the DSP engine are retained. The reported version is now 1.1.

VST2 stores the selected skin in an extended chunk and also reads the older 1.0 chunk. Redundant host selection of the current program no longer resets modified parameters after state restoration. In VST3 the existing 136-byte processor state remains unchanged; the skin is stored separately in controller state.

Windows binary tests under Wine

  • Switching all three skins in an open editor without changing the 16 sound parameters.
  • Saving the selected skin, closing and reopening the editor.
  • Restoring a saved skin into a fresh instance/controller.
  • Loading legacy 1.0 state.
  • MIDI, audio generation, state, presets and editor operation.
  • VST2: comparing two identical engines while changing one editor's skin produced identical audio samples.
  • VST3: a 40-second five-preset render with skin changes during processing is byte-identical to the original 1.0 reference render.
  • VST3: 47 validator tests passed, 0 failed.

VST3 reference-render SHA-256: 93d30760fe6323382e353296fbc40e3b44d30257b9ed39bb74762c6c2dab0bdb.

Earlier version 1.1 test: REAPER 7.82/x64 under Wine

A project containing two instances was tested: VST2 set to Silver and VST3 set to Vintage. After saving, a fresh REAPER process loaded the project. The selected buttons were verified in both actual editor windows. The modified VST2 Square parameter and the Square value serialized in VST3 processor state were restored.

A four-second offline render was also made at 48 kHz, stereo, 24-bit PCM. It was checked for finite, nonzero audio rather than an empty or silent output.

Limitations

Tests ran under Wine, not native Windows with hardware ASIO. Not every host or DPI configuration has been tested. Editor-state persistence can depend on the host; the described behaviour was verified in REAPER. Save the project manually with Ctrl+S after changing a skin.

Compatibility means reading 1.0 state in version 1.1, not a guarantee of the reverse direction. Keep a backup of the older project and plug-in. VST2 and VST3 cannot be swapped automatically in existing projects.

These tests are not a security audit or a measurement-based comparison with the hardware MGW-111-A. No official certification or endorsement by Steinberg or Cockos is claimed.

Legato changes tested in 1.2

Both test hosts under Wine verified OFF and ON clicks in every skin. Dragging does not adjust the switch; the other 15 parameters remain unchanged. Host suites and the VST3 validator (47/0) were rerun. The reference render remains identical. The full REAPER scenario was not repeated for 1.2.
